In the near future, I will share about our ongoing giving back to the coffee producing women of the Hingkawa Cooperative in Rwanda. For the month of March, I am inviting you to help get girls as young as 2 years of age and older out of dangerous situations. About 5 years ago, Roastmaster Jeff and I made a trip to Tanzania with a group of friends on a missions tip. We met Peter & Mary Street, who have the vision and boots on the ground to build House of Hope. One evening, Mary drove Jeff and I around Moshi, Tanzania and showed us the "red light district" where women are trafficked. The next day they took us out to the shell of House of Hope. Being a parents of girls, and now a grandparents of girls, the plight of these precious souls struck a very deep place in our hearts.

The House of Hope is a shell and desperately needs finished. That is where we come in! Now you can help girls who are taken advantage of and unprotected AND you can enjoy coffee too! Plus the first 25 people who purchase coffee will receive a beautiful note card created from paintings of Peter Street, co-founder of House of Hope, as a way for us to say "Thank you.". These cards are so beautiful, they are frame worthy!

According to the Streets, "In Tanzania there are many mixed orphanages but limited resources for just young girls that have been through severe abusive situations. Our aim is to help young girls aged 2 yrs and up that have been orphaned, abandoned, severely abused, disabled, unwanted or sex-trafficked.

"Our vision is to help restore hearts and to find, unlock and release life’s purpose and the destiny within each child. We want to provide a safe, loving place and to create a home environment along with the opportunity to go to school and receive an education. As the children grow older we will aim to teach life skills and give other opportunities to start small businesses and more. Our mandate is to care and to love the unloved, it is to provide a better than average secure place for the children to feel safe and call home while unlocking the potential inside of each one of them. "

Here is how you will be helping with current needs to complete the building:
  • Painting - Primer, filler, paint and labor - $2,650.00
  • Plumbing - Water faucets, fixtures, toilets and labor - $6,800.00
  • Plastering - Finishing the interior including an office area, two classrooms. store rooms, living areas on the second story, ceilings for the entire house and labor - $8,300.00
  • Electricity - Switches, sockets, lights, junction boxes and other fittings as well as connecting the electricity to the power company along with all of the labor - $6,000.00

You can read more about House of Hope at www.houseofhopetz.org or on Facebook at House of Hope TZ. This offering, promotion and project really connects with the values and behavior of Lamppost Coffee Roasters as we intersect you and your story with the stories of these girls in Moshi, Tanzania. Together, you and Lamppost can be startlingly generous!

Thank you for joining us on the adventure and journey into helping disadvantaged and unprotected girls!
